HGL 061 Defibrillator / heart defibrillator
siehe Ton English: An implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) is a small battery-powered electrical impulse generator which is implanted in patients who are at risk of sudden cardiac death due to ventricular fibrillation. The device is programmed to detect cardiac arrhythmia and correct it by delivering a jolt of electricity. In current variants, the ability to revert ventricular fibrillation has been extended to include both atrial and ventricular arrhythmias as well as the ability to perform biventricular pacing in patients with congestive heart failure or bradycardia.

Defibrillator Vest Worn by Thousands
In the United states, an estimated 300000 people die every year of sudden cardiac arrest although internationally, it’s unclear how many are at risk. Many patients have a device called a defibrillator implanted that delivers a shock to restart the heart. Now, some doctors are prescribing the device in a vest worn outside the body. And the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute is testing the effectiveness of “The LifeVest.” Thousands wear the device and the Pittsburgh-based manufacturer says it expects the number of patients using the technology to double this year. Steve Mort reports.

Biventricular Defibrillator Implantation
Cardiac Electrophysiologist Dr. Mark Harvey, with Oklahoma Cardiovascular Associates, will be implanting a biventricular defibrillator live over the Internet on September 21st at 5:00 PM CDT from the Oklahoma Heart Hospital. The implantation of a biventricular defibrillator is a significant part of Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy (CRT) to restore the natural synchronized beating of the lower chambers of the heart, the ventricles, to treat chronic heart failure. The right and left ventricles must beat in a synchronized pattern to get the blood pumped optimally from the heart to deliver oxygen to the rest of the body. When the ventricles are out of sync – the heart function declines – patients experience marked shortness of breath, dry cough, swelling in the ankles, weight gain, fatigue and a rapid or irregular heartbeat.
Insight to Ignorance
My first ever movie which was done for college. It tells the story about when my boyfriend died for no reason at work and how glad I am to still have him. He had a device called an ICD (implantable cardioverter-defibrillator) surgically put into his chest and heart which shocks him when needed to make his heart go normal or if he dies again, to get it started. You can get more information on these sorts of things here: www.cry.org.uk – They are great people to talk to about any questions.
