do people really jump like on the movies when they get shocked with a defibrillator?

  • Matthias A:

Yes, to a small degree. The defibrillator works by sending an electrical impulse through the body, affecting all muscles. Note that the movies where people flail so badly that they go flying is Hollywood.

  • Sar:

yes – it’s something you don’t want to happen if your heart is actually beating

Not unless they are weird. They just have the actors do that so that it puts emphasis on what is happening. They will move some, but not like that.

  • Ryan:

actually no you dont move at all … ive seen it done to someone and talked to emt’s theres no movement like in the movie its just an added effect to make it look better .. sometimes there may be a very smal twitch in the arms tho

  • Naruto:

yes they have a spasm though not as violent as the ones in movies, they exaggerate it in movies. sometimes theydont even do it at all.

  • The Jet's Mom:

i believe of muscle twitches and nerves jumping but to actually almost pull up off the bed, i think that’s exaggeration.
